Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairperson Dr Ismail Shah has said after exploring different options it has been decided that the 3G and 4G spectrumlicenses will be auctioned simultaneously on Indian model.
PTA chairperson said that due to delay in adopting modern technology, Pakistan is much behind India today.
He said the base prices set for 34 and 4G spectrums in Pakistan are not much higher than that of India because the expensiveness could affect the roll out process. The base price for 10 MHz block from 1800Mhz is $210 million while for 10Mhz block from 2100Mhz is $295 million.
Dr. Shah said not profit but adoption and of state-of-the-art technology and improvement in ecosystem is PTA priority that’s why it is not waiting to launch 4G, which was introduced in 2010 but its roll out process was repetitively delayed due to various reasons.
PTA chairman said that over last several years the industry dynamics have witnessed a significant diversification and the auction of 34 of 4G will leave a positive impact on the on economy.
“The economy was being impacted negatively with all the delays and abortive efforts to auction next-generation services in the country,” he said.
The bids of four mobile operators –Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone and Zong —had qualified for the auction of 3G and 4G.
The auction for next generation network licenses will be held on April 23. The licenses would be issued for a period of fifteen years to the successful bidders.
